Berkley Attacks Heller on Social Security, Medicare
Posting Date: 08/17/2012

Press Release

U.S. Rep. Shelly Berkley told a crowd at a Carson City coffee shop Thursday, Aug. 16, that Social Security and Medicare are under attack by Senate opponent U.S. Sen. Dean Heller and the Republican presidential ticket.

Many in the crowd were seniors. Berkley told them to remember what it was like for the elderly before Social Security was enacted in 1935.

“They had no income and no hope,” she said, adding that one-third of her constituency are seniors who live off monthly Social Security checks that average $1,147.

Berkley, D-Las Vegas, linked Heller, a Republican from Carson City, to the Romney-Ryan ticket. Vice-presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan to reduce the deficit, well-received among Republicans, is “radical, ill-conceived” legislation that would harm seniors, the poor and the middle class, she said.

“I’d say Medicare is facing its biggest threat since it was created in 1965,” Berkley told about 50 people who gathered at a coffee house across the street from the Nevada Legislature.

Berkley has been outpacing Heller in fundraising. Her campaign raised more than $1.5 million in the April-through-June quarter, compared with $1.2 million raised by Heller.

Also in the race is David Lory VanderBeek of the Independent American Party, a therapist from Pahrump.

Heller is one of those politicians who says anything to win. He will dump Medicare, no doubt about it. Romney/Ryan want to give tax breaks to the rich and cut Medicare for the poor. You can't ignore the facts, that's what Heller stands for.

Margorie is correct. Heller voted twice to end Medicare and to make us seniors here in Nevada pay an additional $6,000 in increased out of pocket expenses for health care.

Dean supports our efforts to halting the Gold Butte take over by the government and leaving it as it is. He supports Israel and ending the violence there. He supports jobs by keeping Yucca Mountain open. He supports things important to Mesquite we need to vote for him.

Heller will keep Gold Butte free of government and keep it for ranchers and cattlemen. We need him to support us.

There is always another option. Vote for neither one of these 2 bozo's. Vote for the Libertarian Party of Nevada. Forget the right wing religious crazies or the liberal socialists, vote for the truth. Libertarian Party.

You can get distracted on all those hate ads on TV but all you really need to know is Heller is for big oil and subsidies to oil companies so when you get gas at Smtihs tomorrow and pay $3.50-$4.00 you can thank Dean Heller.
