"We're going to do something very different and very fun for this tournament," Geno Withelder said as he explained his latest fundraising golf tournament for the Virgin Valley Little League. "It's the last day before the Falcon Ridge golf course closes for reseeding and we're going to have fun and raise some money for the Virgin Valley Little League."
The golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8, with a shotgun start at 7:00 am.
"The format will be a SCRAM-SHAM, and will be played for the express purpose of having fun and saying farewell to summer," Withelder said.
A SCRAM-SHAM is a combination of a Scramble format and a Shamble format.
For a Shamble, everyone hits a first shot off the tee box. Players then agree on the best laying ball. All players play their
own ball all the way into the hole from the agreed-upon location.
All players will play a Shamble format on holes 1-9 and a Scramble format on holes 10-18.
Teams will be arranged by a blind draw. No pre-determined teams will be allowed. "This will be done in the spirit of playing with someone different and having fun," Withelder quipped.
A "Pairings" party will be held Friday afternoon, Sept. 7, beginning at 5:30 pm, at the Mesquite Elks Lodge on Riverside Road.
Entry fee for the tournament is $50 per person and include lunch, golf, and a cart. Hole sponsorships are available for $35 per hole.
Due to the nature of this tournament, players of all calibers are most welcome to play and ladies are specifically invited.
