TUESDAY: MEYER RECORDS EIGHT THREES - LARSEN DROWNS THE NET
John Meyer has really found his game again. Those golf lessons are paying off now. Tuesday he teed it up with 19 other MMGA players and shot a 36 on the front side and a really nice one over par 37 on the back for a 73 and low medalist. All three of his birdies earned him skins as well.
Bubba Petrick (79) and Paul LeVan (78) battled it out for second place. Petrick led by one shot after nine with his 37. Both players had a birdie on the back side but LeVan took second place with a 40 on the back to Petrick’s 42. Ray Rodger’s (89) and Courtney Larsen (88) teed from the front tees and battled it out for low net honors which went to Larsen with a net 60 and Rodgers with a net 67. Joel Reilly shot another good round of 90 which was second low net 66. Thirteen of the twenty players scored net 71 or better.
APERCU’S:
The shot of the day was turned in by Tom Durenberger on the par five #12th hole. His wedge shot from 77 yds out hit just short of the pin, bounced once and dropped into the cup for a “great” eagle three. Paul LeVan had the hole of the day on 13. His tee shot scraped the side of the hill on the right, hit the cart path and stopped 129yds in the middle of the fairway. His next shot was bladed a couple feet off the ground but somehow managed to land on the green leaving him with a fifty foot up hill putt to the back of the green. You guessed it, he drilled it to the middle of the cup where it dropped in for a “sweet” birdie three.
THURSDAY: ELLER BEATS THE HEAT
St. George retiree, Bill Eller, took first place low net at the Palms golf course Thursday morning. Because of the excessive heat warning two players decided to not risk it but 19 others teed it up and were done before noon. The best round was turned in by Eller who shot a 40 on both sides for 80 and a net 64. That was three net shots better than our up front tee players Ray Rodgers (85) and Courtney Larsen (93) who had 67’s. Ron Manthey once again played better than everyone with a one over par 37 on the front and a 41 on the back for 78 and medalist honors. Besides Eller’s 80 John Meyer had the same score and Dick Swayne was third low gross with a 81.
NOTE: Next play is on Tuesday August 14th at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge, and Thursday August 16 at 7:00 at Conestoga. Always check your sign - up sheets, and or our website, for any changes. Anyone interested in the MMGA may call 346-6363 or visit our website at mesquitemensgolf.com.
