Colin Warren will make guest appearance at July
Brown Bag lecture July 3 at the Mesquite Fine
Arts Gallery.

Art Gallery closed for refurbishing July 1-9

Most Mesquite residents know Colin Warren for his haunting lyrical Native American Flute CDs. He is also a fine poet, artist, and essayist, with several published works to his credit. Tuesday, July 3, Colin will speak on “Poetry, Storytelling and the Art of Interpretation.”

His presentation is sponsored by Virgin Valley Artists Association as part of its brown bag lecture series, “Everything Mixes With Art.” Colin will give his noontime presentation in the Mesquite Fine Arts Classroom adjacent to the Gallery. The gallery itself is closed July 1 through 9 for its yearly refurbishing. Warren’s presentation is free of charge, and the public is invited to attend.

Colin is a member of the Virgin Valley Artists Association, the nonprofit organization that operates the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery. He has given benefit concerts for the organization. With his wife Karen, Colin has worked hard to advance the arts and support numerous causes in Mesquite. He has been a constant entertainer and companion to the residents at Highland Manor, brightening their day with flute music and gentle visits with his beautiful dog.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery will be closed July 1-9 for its annual refurbishment. The gallery will reopen July 10, featuring a new art competition, “I’m Seeing Red!,” sponsored by the Mesquite Citizen Journal, along with a full display of original member artwork and gift shop.

The Virgin Valley Artists Association presents its monthly

lecture series as part of its community art education program. The lecture series originated 7 years ago and has featured all aspects of art, from ice sculpting to wood carving, from ancient cameo making to modern polymer bead jewelry. VVAA is a nonprofit organization that provides volunteer staffing to operate the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery and offers its member artwork for sale. The Gallery was recently named “Business of the Quarter” by

the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce for its involvement in community affairs and mutual support of other Mesquite businesses. The Gallery receives partial funding from the City of Mesquite, Nevada Arts Council and Nevada Commission on Tourism, Mesquite Resort Association, Greater Mesquite Arts Foundation, many local business sponsors and individual donors. While this funding sets it apart from private business ventures, the Gallery provides income to at least 100 local artists through sale of their

artwork, and contributes sales tax revenues to the state and city. It invites local businesses to partner in presenting public events that educate and entertain the public, showcase the businesses, and nurture the cultural life of the community.

For more information concerning Colin Warren’s July 3 program, the Gallery, or membership in Virgin Valley Artists Association, please visit www.mesquitefineartscenter.com, call the gallery during its business hours, 10a-4p. Tuesday through Saturday, or visit the Gallery at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite Nevada, before June 30, or when it re-opens July 10. Call 702-346-1338 for more information.
