Michael (Mike) R. Schaffer, age 67, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 2, 2012. He lost his battle with lung cancer. Survivors include wife Anna, niece Cathy (Dwayne) Kaufman, great niece Lisa, nephew Jerry Wade, niece Dianna (Bob) Schenkman, many friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Mike was born and raised in Denver and served in the U. S. Army from 1965-1969. He was a Police Officer and Detective in Englewood, Sheridan, and Cherry Hills, Colorado. He worked one year in Bosnia as a Police Instructor with the U. S. Department of State.
Mike and Anna moved to Mesquite in 2001. In
addition to Anna, his wife of 31 years, Mike loved exploring the desert in his Jeep, gold prospecting, American History– especially the Civil War, casinos, the Colorado Rockies Baseball team and his four legged companion, Tappy.
His soft spoken demeanor, dry sense of humor and low key mannerisms will surely be missed.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Mesquite Veterans’ Center, 850 West Hafen Lane. Everyone who would like to join Anna in remembering Mike is invited to his celebration.
In lieu of flowers, Anna would like donations to the American Cancer Society, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOM) in Washington, DC or a charity of your choice.
