The tryouts for the Mesquite Kids on Stage production of Seussical, Jr. have been scheduled.
Youth ages 13 to 19 will tryout on Monday, May 14, from 4 to 6 pm at the Mesquite Community Theatre. Tuesday, May 15, tryouts will be for ages 10 through 12 from 4-6 pm. The tryouts for youth ages 8 and 9 will be on Wednesday, May 16 also from 4-6 pm.
Those under 8 years of age will not be needed for this show.
Students will be expected to sing a short song of their choice and read from the script. Those trying out should come with a 3 by 5 card with the following information: name, age, school and grade, phone number, address, parent’s name and parent’s phone number, height and shirt size.
Parents will be expected to sign a production agreement.
All those attending must also pay the $40 registration fee for the two month acting workshop before trying out. If someone does not get in the cast, the money will be refunded.
Rehearsals will be held every Monday through Thursday from 4:15 until 6 pm until school is out. Then rehearsals will be held from 10 am to 1 pm Monday through Thursday. Fridays and Saturdays will be used for costumes and scenery with which parents will be asked to help.
The show is scheduled for July 12, 13, 14 at the Community Theatre.
Seussical was written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on 18 books of Dr. Seuss.
It opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on November 29, 2000. It also has had two very successful US national tours.
Seussical, Jr. is based on the Broadway production.
