Water Board Will Appoint Public To GM Interview Panels

When the Virgin Valley Water District Board of Directors meet this afternoon they will consider appointing four members of the public to assist the District in hiring a new general manager. One alternate will also be chosen.

The appointments will mirror the process the City of Mesquite used in 2012 when it interviewed and selected City Manager Andy Barton. The Directors decided in April that community members would be part of the final interview panels augmenting the Board and District employees.  [Read more]


Lonetti Testifies In Water District Hearing - Video

In a continuing series, the Mesquite Citizen Journal examines courtroom videos that reveal details of the Virgin Valley Water District's ongoing litigation against its former General Manager Mike Winters, former Chief Hydrologist Michael Johnson, and a retired State Water Engineer Robert Coache. Those three have been charged in criminal indictments going back to a water share deal in 2008 in which Johnson and Coache allegedly received a bribe of $1.3 million dollars from local businessman John Lonetti.

Lonetti has not been charged in the criminal case but he is part of a civil suit the Water District filed against all four men.  [Read more]


VVWD Finalizes Deficit Budget

At a special meeting Friday, May 17, the Virgin Valley Water District Board of Directors approved a deficit budget for Fiscal Year 2013-14 that calls for half a million more in spending than revenues will collect. [Read more]

Water District Passes New Employee Policies-Video

Without discussion or fanfare, the Virgin Valley Water District Board of Directors quickly passed a new Confidential Information Policy designed to protect employee personnel records information at the Board meeting, May 7.

The policy had been before the Board twice in the last two months with Directors asking for changes and revisions both times. Each time they asked for the policy to be reviewed by employees before it was formally adopted. [Read more]


Courtroom Videos Reveal Details Of Water District Lawsuits

In an Evidentiary hearing held in Las Vegas District Courtover the span of four days, the Virgin Valley Water District (VVWD) general counsel Bo Bingham presented his case on why legal counsel for one of the defendants in the Water District's civil case should be disqualified.

Ultimately, Judge Rob Bare ruled against the District. His ruling is being appealed to the Nevada Supreme Court.  [Read more]


VVWD Board Determines GM Hiring Process

Most of the Virgin Valley Water District (VVWD) Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, April 16, was spent determining the hiring process that will be used to find a new General Manager for the District.

The District has received about 25 applications for the position left vacant when the former General Manager Ken Rock was fired in February. [Read more]
