"There is huge potential and a lot of opportunity here," is how Gaye Stockman described her first impression of Mesquite. She is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Mesquite Regional Business, Inc. (MRBI), the public-private organization charged with economic development (ED) for the area. She recently sat down with the Mesquite Citizen Journal for an interview.
"I hear people say it's so bad. But there is so much good that we should focus on. The City has put in some great infrastructure that will be wonderful to market to outside businesses looking to come to Mesquite," she said.
She described a jaunt Aaron Baker, the City's Interim Economic Development Director, took her on when she visited Mesquite prior to accepting her position. "He took me up on Flat Top Mesa where you can look out over the whole city. It was amazing. You could see all the pieces and all the potential in one view."

“Without Al Litman, we would be out of business,” said Danielle Atkinson, owner of Danielle's Chocolates. “I was at the end of my rope over inspections by the health department and was ready to pull up stakes and move our business to Southern Utah.”
The latest problem for this business owner began on Jan 11, when an electrical fire started in the roof of a vacant business adjoining hers in the strip mall on W. Pioneer Boulevard. Although the fire didn't spread fully into her business, it did scorch the walls and ceiling and closed the business down for two months while repairs were made. That's when the problems began.
In order to re-open, the business needed an inspection by the health district. “We have been in business for 32 years, 24 of them in Clark County and dealing with the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has never been easy during that entire time,” said Atkinson.
