Many of us have experienced the crushing disappointment with the last-minute cancellation of an event we had our heart set on. As adults, we've learned to pick up and go on.

Young girls who were students at the From The Top dance school in Mesquite are learning that same lesson but at a much earlier age.

Karen Law, who owns the dance school located in the Bulldog Plaza, unexpectedly closed her doors May 14 without prior notice just two weeks before her students were to perform at a June 1 recital at the Mesquite Community Theatre.

"The little girls deserve their recital," Tasha Gorman told the Mesquite Citizen Journal. "We're going to pick up and make it happen for them. We just want to pack the theatre with people and make the girls feel good about what happened." [Read more]

Pati, 78, was recently named the first Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year for his work as the Founder and Chairman of the Mesquite Senior Games.

As Mayor Wier made the presentation at the Mesquite City Council meeting, he said, "I want people to know in this town that we have wonderful people working and living here. They are above the call of 'wonderful.' This gentleman I've known since the first day I moved into town." [Read more]

Frank Pati Honored with Senior Games Quilt

Posting Date: 05/14/2013

By Linda Faas, MCJ Feature News Reporter

Mesquite resident Frank Pati was recently named Nevada Senior of the Year, a well-deserved honor for the man who started and headed Mesquite’s Senior Games. He will receive his award from the Nevada Silver Haired Congress in Las Vegas on May 22.

No trophy will be quite as impressive as the Mesquite Senior Games Quilt he was given at a recent gathering of the Senior Games volunteers. Claire Kirchen spent several weeks carefully cutting and stitching together the logos from each of the twelve T-shirts that have been designed for the annual Mesquite Senior Games since their inception in 2002. She was anxious to have the quilt ready for Pati by the close of the 2013 Games as a tribute for his years of service.  [Read more]
